Let’s be honest. This definition briefly tells you *what* I do, but it definitely doesn’t tell you “why” I do it! Hint… it’s not because I love being tied to my computer all day.
Yesterday, as I was listening to #startwithwhy by @simonsinek, I had an epiphany: I didn’t know my “why” (aka my mission statement).
Sure, I thought about it endlessly for the last five years and I even wrote down my “why” on my office corkboard, but it never felt “just right.” Feeling like Goldilocks, I kept brainstorming and trying new sentences on for fit. Some were too bland or too bold or just flat-out not me at all.
While the idea of “I want to provide a comfortable life for my family” sounds good, it just doesn’t resonate with me; it doesn’t motivate me.
In the last six weeks, I have spent at least one hour most days meditating and letting my thoughts flow out of me. I have had incredible realizations about myself, my goals, and the impact I want to make. Most of all, I figured out WHY I do what I do and what brings me incredible amounts of joy. Without further ado, here is my WHY — my mission statement:
To make people laugh and foster communities of true belonging.
Okay, now that doesn’t sound like it ties directly to copywriting, but I promise it does!
