No One is "Self-Made"
You know by now that I am not super outspoken about my political, religious, or social beliefs. I don’t fill my social media accounts with long diatribes about my viewpoints. However, there is one thing I would like to address, if you’ll let me:
No one is “self-made.”
There. I said it. I don’t care how much money you have made in your business or empire; you most definitely did NOT do this alone. We all have our tribe of loyal supporters, whether lifelong friends and family from our hometown or virtual fans from halfway across the globe. Each and every person has contributed to your success and I believe it is only right to acknowledge that. Stating you are a “self-made millionaire” (or whatever-aire) sounds like you lost sight of where you truly came from and the people cheering you on from the bleachers.
I promise to you, my loyal friends, family, and followers, I will not forget the impact you have made on me throughout the years.
You have helped me gain the courage to launch my business.
You have supported me through the most devastating illnesses and deaths in my family.
You can encouraged me to keep going as I pivoted in my businesses and in life.
You have reached out to offer your time (and muscles) during art shows and events.
You showed up and made a difference in my life.
You matter and I am eternally grateful. I am, nor will I ever be, self-made.
